Net Finney : Theological Internet Security Software
This is hilarious … I found it on a satire site today.
“We were about to research America’s election process, so we went to Google and typed in ‘election.’ The phone rang and I stepped out for no more than 5 minutes, and when I returned I found Eric reading some article by a guy named R.C. Sproul about believers being ‘elected’ and ‘predestined’ by God for salvation. I just freaked out! I didn’t know what to do.”
For those who aren’t familiar with Finney, he was a lawyer-turned-preacher who is often highly regarded as a great evangelist. He is credited with inventing the “alter call” and saying such things as:
“There is nothing in religion beyond the ordinary powers of nature. A revival is not a miracle, nor dependent on a miracle, in any sense. It is a purely philosophical result of the right use of the constituted means—as much so as any other effect produced by the application of means. . . . A revival is as naturally a result of the use of means as a crop is of the use of its appropriate means.”
In other words, if the proper technique is executed, one can cause anyone to decide to become a follower of Christ — faith in Christ is just a logical mental process that needs to be followed. He also denied original sin, taught that man is morally neutral, and believed that you have to maintain your justification by works once you do become a Christian.

I actually thought the Net Finney software was real… until Finney was described in the blog as a Pelagian evangelist.
The “comments” by Liberty staff members are hilarious!!
