Digital Photo Processing

So we’ve had a digital camera going on 4 years now. Well, Regina has finally gotten sick of not having any physical pictures of Maegan’s life. The girls also like to look at Camryn’s baby pictures. They always end up asking to look at Maegan’s pictures but she has to reply, “I don’t have any.”

I have a good photo printer but I am the type of person that likes to tweak every aspect of a picture until it’s just right, so I always end up spending several hours of time just to get a picture or two printed — not to mention the use of a ton of expensive ink. But those two pictures sure do look good. :D

Do you use a photo service like SnapFish, Kodak, Ofoto, or something else? Apple’s iPhoto has print processing with Kodak built-in but there is a price for convenience — .19 per print. I just can’t bring myself to pay that when I know SnapFish is .12 per print.

What is your process of getting your digital images in physical print format? When and why do you decide to place an order? How long does it take? Gimme the scoop.

I am a fan of Costco. They charge .17 per print, but do a bang up job in less than an hour. I really like their enlargements ($2.49 for 8×10) My friend who does photography for a profession sends her pictures to Walmart (proofs only) and seems to have had a good experience (all on line). I am old school and haven’t started using any of the online processors. I’ll let you know if I hear anything.

I just don’t get them printed. Sigh.

I use Fotki.com. I don’t know how they do it at .09 for a 4×6, but the quality is good and the turnaround time is good, too.

I use Fotki as well. I only have a free account, which caps me at about 50MB on their server at a time, so it’s a little bit of a hassle… but the price is right (like Eric said - $0.09), the quality is the best I’ve seen, and the turnaround time is under a week. I think our last order went in on a Friday and we had the photos in hand on Wednesday.
