    And, to some extent, we read those words by the shapes of the tops of the letters. Try covering the bottom half of a line of text–you can still read it. Cover the top half, and you can’t. This is also why text in ALL CAPS is fatiguing to read: it’s all one straight line across the top, so we are forced to read every letter, rather than going by the shapes. Lots of small text in all caps usually means someone doesn’t want you reading it. ;)
