Realtime Shopping

People handle their money in different ways. Some people always buy the nicest things — whether they can afford them or not.

Example: Need some furniture? No problem, just go to the Macy’s Furniture Show Room.

Not me. Some people always by the cheapest things — knowing that whatever it is will soon break or is just plain ugly.

Example: When your bathroom has brass hardware, why buy the more expensive brass faucet when the chrome one is $20 less.

Not me. Me? I just want to know that I got a good deal on something that is just right for what it is meant to accomplish.

Yes, I procrastinated with my Christmas shopping and I’m not going to pay extra for express shipping so that means I had to put my feet to the pavement, get out there, and shop. After experiencing online shopping though, I found my general shopping philosophy very time consuming. Instead of opening up a new browser window and checking another store’s price, you have to get in the car and drive to another store. Once you get there, you have to hope they have a similar product. They probably don’t, so then you have to weigh the different features versus the cost of both products.

Today’s big stores have so much stuff that if you see something you like, all you have to do is throw it in the cart be done with it — instant gratification. I just can’t do that. It’s like a worm begins to bore a hole in my brain saying, “You know you could probably get the very same thing somewhere else for at least $10 less.” Maybe next year I will remember the pain and not procrastinate.
