Reading Narnia

Well I haven’t mentioned it yet but I am reading The Chronicles of Narnia with Camryn now. I’ve never read them before. I got in trouble in middle school for NOT reading Voyage of the Dawn Treader though. I think I’d do much better in school if I went back now but that’s another story. We are just about to finish up The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe before the movie comes out next week. It will be interesting to see how they pull off a movie from the book. While the book is good, it doesn’t seem to have that much plot going on at one time and is rather short. I just hope they don’t add anything like a Jar Jar Binks or something.

Or maybe it’s good that there’s not too much going on. Maybe it’s just enough to fill up two hours of visuals and develop the characters into someone that you can identify with. I’ve never adapted a screenplay before. I guess we’ll see. Either way, I’m trying not to hold the expectation that the movie should be just like the book (a sled pulled by polar bears is much cooler than the original reign deer) — just that it holds to the original central theme.

Learn more about the movie here.

i got a preview dvd of the movie for ministers and i find it funny that they are pushing it as the first time the lion the which and wardrode had been turned into a movie and that it is the best “evenagelism” tool we have had in years.

i find this funny because the bbc made the first three books into movies about 20 years ago.

i also find it funny becuase i thought the passion of the Christ was the greatest evangelism tool we have had in years.

i am also reading them to my girls, ashley is really interested in the chronicles so we started reading them.

it is good to see that you started reading in the order they were written and not in the order they happen. too many sets have moved the magicians nephew to book one and bumped tltw&tw to number two stuck a horse and his boy next.

it is like the star wars movies. my kids are watching them in the way they came out and not in chronological order. they are also not seeing the updated versions until after they see the origenals.

About two years ago - John Michael and I read through the Magician’s Nephew and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. They were great and he seemed to really enjoy them.

Then we went on to the next book - the one with the boy and the horse. EEEEWWWWWW. Not a pleasant experience, and we abandoned the tale about a quarter of the way through. We picked up The Hobbit and are just now about done with The Fellowship of the Ring - getting ready to move on to The Two Towers.

So, does anyone know if the one about the boy and his pony gets any better??
