Candy Candy Candy

I did something last night that I haven’t done in a LONG time. I broke out the Ouija Board — just kidding, I don’t even have one. I sat down and sorted out Halloween candy — lollipops, Reeses, Snickers, Smarties, etc. With all the different Fall Festivals, parties, and trick or treating this year, we now have enough candy to last till Easter — that’s the point, right? Halloween is like Christmas now, in that all the different celebrations are spread out over the entire month. What used to be one holiday is now several weeks of events.

We did something different this year and actually attended the trick or treating at Alltel — where I work. I didn’t think about it before but imagine getting candy from every house in a medium sized neighborhood in about 30 minutes. The girls just got one piece of candy from each cube but their buckets were over flowing by the end. “Cubing” is definitely the way to go. On the 31st we did the traditional neighborhood thing but with some friends that drove about 10 kids around in a tractor. The tractor would pull up to a house, the kids would get out and get the candy, and then the adults would catch up about the time everyone was piling back in to go to the next house. The kids loved it and it wasn’t very stressful for the adults. It set a pretty high standard for next year.

On top of all this, we have the leftover candy that we bought for the Alltel event. It’s not good to be heading into November and already thinking that you need to be on a diet. That’s usually just after the office Christmas party somewhere in the first two weeks of December.

we do a trunk or treat in our church’s parking lot. after evening services closest to halloween the kids put their costumes on after service. meanwhile the adults have decorated thier trunks and the kids go down the center of one part of the parking lot and get candy. sometimes nieghborhood kids join in too. it is always alot of fun and so my kids have more candy then they know what to do with so i am helping them out.

the last two years we have had to deal with rahmadan traffic, because of a deal the mosque across the street worked out with us long ago. i think next year we will just close the lot for that night.

i am going to post some video of that night pretty soon.

I sat at the front door, dispensed candy and encouraged the younglings to ‘google’ Martin Luther and 1517. Thank God for Reformation Day.

I know someone who would do that in the past… i’m sure the kids just blow their noses into them or burn them
