Songs of the Year

Maegan’s birthday party was today. I had to cut the grass this morning before the afternoon rains came. I don’t really like cutting the grass but I love putting the iPod on shuffle and seeing what song comes on next. I was thinking back to a post I made a while back as I have a lot of new music on there and guess what … new memories to go along with it.

A Caedmon’s Call song came on that someone gave me at the beach last summer. As I was cutting the grass I was instantly taken back to the afternoon walk I took by myself and heard the song for the first time. I could see the kids playing in the retreating surf, the boat coming in from being out at sea, and the afternoon sun was just beginning to think about going down.

There’s something about standing next to the vastness of the ocean and hearing a song about how helpless we are in ourselves and how dependent we are on God for everything that makes an impression you. Every song that came on I had gotten in the past year and I have a new memory to go with just about all of them. So I offer the same encouragement I did before, buy some new music and make some memories to go with it.
