It Is Finished

I have officially finished the book, “New Way To Be Human” by Charlie Peacock - I got it for Father’s Day last year. It was a very worth while read in that it establishes a biblically sound world-view in a very real, not too cerebrial, artful, way. It also has several chapters about how marriage fits into the Kingdom that will be the best marriage counseling you could possibly get.

I’ve had many a conversation about what it means if the Kingdom is not the main priority in our life and as I read, I saw myself and my friends in many of the examples of excuses NOT to be about the Kingdom. Charlie also identifies security as the driving force behind middle-class suburban Christianity and how we hide behind the banner of Christianity instead of following the example of Jesus himself - hardly safe and secure.

He urges us to be in a place where we have something to offer instead of being too in debt, too busy, too selfish, too whatever to just sit on the sidelines and watch the days go by maintaining our self existance. I include the excuse of having young kids. I keep hearing, “I’m just not in a season to serve.” Sorry but that’s just another excuse. Wouldn’t it be better for your children to see you put your money where your mouth is. Unless you just do it, serving in the Kingdom will never be easy or convenient.

So read the book and then reexamine your motivations and excuses. (As for myself, I am encouraged to see evidence of an increasing awareness of and participation in the story of God - even before I finished the book.)
