Georgia Pan Handle

Well we took the kids to the Atlanta Zoo on Saturday. We parked in the far lot where you have to walk through Grant Park to get to the zoo. This always makes for an interesting stroll. On the way in, there was a guy playing the trombone with his case open. I am usually sympathetic to street musicians but the limit of this guy’s talent were the five notes of “Go Big Red” - or insert any school name here. On the way out there was an artist looking to draw pictures of your family or the kids. I admit I considered using his services but it was pretty cold and the sun was going down - you don’t want to be in Grant Park after dark. I admired him for actually trying to use his skills to make some money - unlike the next guy we ran across.

As we walked up the hill toward the car we saw a man standing of the sidewalk. As we approached he pulled out a cell phone and started talking. He made sure that we could overhear him telling his kids not to panic and daddy would be there as soon as he could. As soon as were next to him, he hung up the phone, showed us an ID of some sort and said he was a science professor at Georgia State, his car was broken down and he needed two dollars to ride the bus. What did I do? I just kept walking. I wasn’t going to reward this guy for trying to pull one over on me. I just wish I was quick with my words like Jesus was though. I should have told him I would give a ride home if he could tell me the symbol for gold on the periodic chart.

Anyway, what will become of this, no too much I don’t think but now I will be ready the next time I meet a guy posing as a science teacher - and I really do hope that the portrait guy is there again when we go back. (We have season passes.)
