8 Track Sundays
Well I took the ADAT to church on Sunday and recorded the music. Except for an acoustic guitar pickup producing less than acceptable tone, a noisy bass and a lack of keys (I direct outted the wrong channel on the board), it turned out pretty good. This week we added a new band member playing bass so the old bassist moved to his first love - electric guitar. We just mic’d a small marshall with a 57 and it sounded great. Now we just need a kit - I’m currently playing djembe and percussion.
Listen to Blessed Be Your Name
I like to record to look at how we played under a microscope and find general places we need to improve. As usual I need to focus on tempo. There are still a few places where it takes off in the louder sections of the songs. We also need to listen a bit more as a band to punches and accents. There are a few places where different people are an 8th note off - it makes transitions and big endings sound rather sloppy. I didn’t really notice as we practiced and played, thus the value of recording.
I think we’re probably pretty far from a true live recording but we might be able to pull off some smaller arrangements - maybe an “unplugged” feel.

A big amen from the new bassist - I’d love to hear that tape. You know what would be great - to hear it during practice. It would be nice to get some feedback (no pun intended) before the performance instead of after…

What that delay on the acoustic coming off the board? NO MORE DELAY ON ACOUSTIC GUITARS. Remind me to tell the sound guys.
Wow! We were in a hurry to end that song huh? The electric guitar could be louder ; )

Excuse me. My last comment should have begun, “Was that…”

No it wasn’t from the board, I added it for a bit more of a U2 feel - maybe a bit too much I guess. I take the “blame” for the tempo but I contest that I was encouraged.

I’ve never been labeled as an encourager before.
You know, in the moment, what feels right isn’t always what is right. Nice metaphor for temptation…

Sounded pretty good to me. I agree with David - there were spots where we were not tight, and John’s vocal was a tad flat in a few spots up front.
But when the jets hit the runway and we took off - Boy howdy! We were a flyin’. Dave - thanks for the tempo spike!
It is cool serving with you guys.
