Oprah Blog Club

Over the summer, a group of guys I meet with all read Pilgrim’s Progress. We would then discuss our findings when we got together. The problem was that every week was too different to really keep up as a group. One week there was no time to read, while others I was able to go way past the assigned reading.

So as we were trying to figure out what to read next Hugh came up with a good idea. We are already kind of reading differnent books so why not just read it and blog about our findings so everyone gains some insight from four times as many books? Ingenious! (I will post links as they become available.)

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am currently reading New Way To Be Human by Charlie Peacock. It puts our individual salvation in context to the whole STORY of God - from Eden to the New Heaven and Earth (total redemption). It makes the point that evangelism should be based on communicating the whole story of God and how we fit in it - anything less and our proper role in the Story becomes distorted.

I was reading the reviews on Amazon and this one dude suggested skipping over the chapters where Peacock outlines God’s story (creation, fall, Israel, Jesus, redemption) because they’re “not worth your trouble.” For some reason I don’t think he got the point.

so should we post here or on our own blogs?

on your own blog. I would expect that the posts will probably be pretty lengthy. With multiple people posting things might get intimidating to read if it was all in one spot. Use an aggregator to help keep up with posts. You’re welcome to join in. Hey if I got an iSight we might could even teleconference you in on our meetings.
