Dietary Update
So with the being on a low-carb/psuedo South Beath diet and getting mono, my diet has been very successful. I went from 175lbs to 152.5lbs. I think it’s time to level out now. I’ve added the carbs back in but have reduced my portion sizes and I’m still generally trying to avoid soft drinks. (Water just doesn’t go with Pizza.) Regina and I have started using smaller plates to help reduce our portions. Once you break the habit of going back for more, your stomach gets used to it and you feel full after one normal size serving. We went to Outback Steaks over Thanksgiving weekend. I ordered the small size prime rib, what is that, 8oz? The waitress tried to upsell me to the larger steak (for a larger tip of course) but the small was plenty.
There is the old saying “eat to live, don’t live to eat.” I think we are really more guilty of gluttony than we think. We aren’t the fat guy in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (Get me a bucket!) but how many times do you leave the table stuffed? Can you walk away from the dessert before it becomes physically impossible to eat another bite? Do you skip over the smaller portion sizes thinking, “that won’t be enough”? Oh, but that’s the sin God doesn’t really care about though, right? Imagine being forced to only eat enough to sustain life and see how much you worship food.
I am also going to diversify my “media” diet. After a steady intake of internet, radio, and TV, I’ve added movies back in but more importantly, I need to read more books. I have several books sitting on the bedside table collecting dust. One is A New Way To Be Human by Charlie Peacock. I’m sure it will provide plenty of blog fuel as I read it. Books are the vegetables of the media diet.

i occasionally do a total news and media fast for a few weeks. did the first one when i got caught up in the bush/gore who won the election thing 4 years ago. got way too focused on the whole thing so did a 2 week news fast. when i finally turned the tv back on, nothing had really changed…other than me.
