Psuedo South Beach

“So why is David losing weight?” seems to be the question of the day. As I sip on my Caffeine Free Diet Dr. Pepper, I will try to explain.

Back around the Olympics, I was sitting in a Chic-fil-a with friend of mine having lunch. We started talking about how the athletes were in such great physical shape, how they could get their bodies to do such amazing things, and how it seems that we were somehow meant for more. This of course lead to the discussion of how out of shape we were. I thought about how I was eating more snacks, junk food lunch every day, and hadn’t done any sort of physical activity is say … 8 years. I thought about when I sit on the sofa with the laptop and my shirt off, that the count of fat roles on my belly was getting larger every week. I looked around and saw everyone’s gut was sticking out as they went back up to refill their softdrink.

Maybe something just clicked (or snapped) but I don’t want to be a big ball with dangly arms and legs - think Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. So I figured I’d do a psuedo South Beach thing. My sister is doing the strict SB and it seems to work for her. All I’m doing is avoiding pasta, white bread, rice, potato products and sweets - just 5 things. Ive gone from 175 to 162 and I can see my toes again.

I was doing the treadmill every other day but that only lasted about 2 weeks. I need to do sit ups and push ups to tone the tummy and build up my chest and arms. For some reason the whole exercise thing just hasn’t clicked yet but until then I can eat less junk and hopefully smaller portions.

Unfortunatly your sister has not been very “strict” about her diet lately, but you have inspired her to get back on track. So your training for the 5K hasn’t been going well? Neither has mine. I’ve been doing good to make it to the gym twice a week. Let me know if you guys want to come up the first weekend in Nov. We are planning on coming to Atlanta for Thanksgiving.

To get in shape I excersize and lift weights. I do about 10 repetitions of walking to the fridge to the couch and back, all while carrying 50 -60 lbs of weight.
My body has learned my routine, and has adapted well to keep my lean machine going. I notice that whenever I cheat and eat something I shouldnt, my body naturally adds more weights for me to carry to help keep this 160 lb body in top shape. :)
